The upper class of medicines…govern the nourishment of destiny and correspond to heaven… If one wishes to prolong the years of life without aging, one should [use these]. – From the Shen Nong Ben Cao, a classical Chinese text
Mei Zen, meaning “Beautiful Person,” is a cosmetic treatment system developed by Dr. Martha Lucas of Denver, CO. Her protocol has been written about in the Oprah Magazine and other publications. This system is a full internal and external treatment which tones and lifts the skin, diminishes wrinkles, reduces puffiness and dark eye circles, and more by addressing the imbalances in your body that caused them in the first place.
Cost: $1,200 for ten treatments, which we’ll do twice a week for five weeks. For all patients I ask that you come in for a free 20-minute consultation before beginning the program. Also, if this is the first time you have ever received acupuncture, I also require that you come in for at least one general health treatment first.
Please note that consistency and frequency are important for building up healthy collagen and elastin. If you know you will be going out of town in the next five weeks, we should schedule the program to start after you return.
For participants in this program, I offer 10% off all herbal formulas and mushroom extracts to support your system. Chinese medicine includes many herbs, like mushrooms and others, that are known as “longevity” or “anti-aging herbs” in Asian culture. Adding these to your program will support our efforts both cosmetically and internally.
What kind of cosmetic issues can this protocol address?
People who are good candidates for this system have concerns about:
- Lines and wrinkles
- Sagging cheeks, jowls, eyelids, and other areas
- Acne, rosascea, and similar
- Dull, dry, off-color skin
- Age spots
- Sun damage
- Bell’s Palsy or post-stroke paralysis
Does it really work to get rid of my wrinkles/sagging skin/age spots/acne/etc.?
Yes. But this isn’t a one-time miracle treatment (there actually is no such thing). In order to see results that will last, you must commit to the full 10 treatments. Before we begin you will come in for a free in-person consult that will last about 20 minutes and I will ask that you have at least one general health treatment if you’ve never had acupuncture before.
How long is the course?
Five weeks, with two treatments per week. After that, I recommend regular maintenance, just like any beauty protocol. If you have a deadline coming up (wedding, reunion, etc.), we can condense the program with good results, but without maintenance, your results will not last. See the next question for more.
How long will my results last?
Your results should last 3-5 years, with maintenance treatments every few months. Remember, nothing can permanently reverse aging – we all go through it! – and options like Botox and surgery also require maintenance. Mei Zen cosmetic acupuncture will help you age gracefully and can help mitigate damage done by sun or skin conditions. Since we’ll be treating your whole body (internally as well as externally), you’re also committing to a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle that’s a true investment in your future.
What are the risks?
The greatest risk is potential bruising, although there are ways to prevent and temper that. Otherwise, there are certain risk factors that might prevent you from being a good facial acupuncture candidate (such as hypertension, history of seizure, migraines, and others), but that is what the free consultation is for: finding these potential risks. And don’t worry: if you have any of these conditions, we can start a course of normal treatments to re-balance your body first and then start the Mei Zen protocol when your body is ready.
